Why visit Chalgrove?
About 10 miles southeast of Oxford, in South Oxfordshire, is the village and civil parish of Chalgrove. The previous parish of Warpsgrove, which it merged with in 1932, and the hamlet of Rofford are both included in the parish.
A tiny creek forms a charming feature that runs the entire length of the village's High Street. There are numerous private bridges that span the brook to access the properties that line that side of the road. It appears that the stream was built by humans and connected to the Chalgrove Brook artificially in the 19th century. The current St. Mary's Church originates from the 12th century, however, it is possible that Edward II ordered its construction when he granted Thame Abbey the living at Chalgrove. An almost complete collection of medieval wall paintings depicting the life of Christ from King David to the Day of Judgment can be found in the chancel.
